UFC Gym Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Workshop

UFC Gym Corona held a workshop for the members of their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No-Gi classes. The Corona classes are taught by Instructors Thomas Kenney and Kenric Toliver. The UFC Gym Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu curriculum is overseen by Head Instructor Mauricio Tinguinha.

Black belts in attendance at the workshop were Mauricio Tinguinha, Thomas Kenney, Kris Shaw, Joe Camacho, Kenric Toliver, Rene Salazar and Brandon Bender. Over sixty students attended this Saturday workshop; white, blue, purple and brown belts of all ages.

[social][/social]The workshop began with an introduction of the black belts, followed by a short student meeting and a then an hour of techniques from the seven black belts in attendance. As they were leaving everyone received a student hand book coving topics from mat rules and belt ranks to uniforms and promotions.

This is the third UFC Gym. The first gym opened in Concord California, about 29 miles east of San Francisco, in January of 2010. UFC has opened gyms in Corona, Rosemead, and Concord California. They have plans to open new gyms in Torrance California and BJ Penn’s UFC gym in Honolulu Hawaii.

Mauricio Tinguinha is a 4th degree black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. He has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1986. He is the Head Instructor of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program over all the UFC Gyms. He was inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame-2008.

The UFC Gym is a partnership between the UFC, Frank Fertitta, Lorenzo Feritta and Dana White and New Evolution Fitness Company (NEFC), Mark Mastrov and Jim Rowley. Mark Mastrov is the founder of the widely successful 24 Hour Fitness chain, which has 400 clubs in 16 states with some 3 million members.
