The announcement came today from Dana White, President of the UFC, that the UFC has absorbed its lower-weight World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) promotion, adding two championship belts to its mix.
Dana White also announced that the UFC was consolidating every fighter under “his parent company’s employment into a single promotion” (see the Video below)
The WEC was purchased December 2006 by the UFC for fighters at 155 pounds and less. Due to this merging of the two entities, WEC 145-pound champion Jose Aldo will be theĀ UFC featherweight champ and WEC 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz will fight Scott Jorgensen [einset][/einset]on Dec. 16 for the new UFC bantamweight title.
As for crossover titles it has been decided that WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson will fight the winner of UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar’s fight with Gray Maynard.
