The Charitable Acts of Jeff Larsen

Exploring the competitive climate of Brazilian jiu-jitsu you will uncover that there are many athletes who are consumed with the ambition of becoming the best in the world. While most have found success from victories and medals obtained in competition some individuals have reached similar feats through their work outside the gym. Team Quest BJJ blue belt Jeff Larsen may appear to be your typical Jiu-Jitsu practitioner partaking in the sport. However outside of the Gi is a person that is documented for his noble deeds to helping those in need in his community and around the world.

Trials and tribulations always have a way of shaping a person's direction in life for better or worse. Raised in a broken home alongside his sister with his parents separated Larsen had to deal with the heavy load of having instability in the home. Growing up was not a task for Larsen.  Nevertheless through the darkness would shine a glimmer of light which found Jeff channeling his pain through his participation in sports. Whether it was basketball, wrestling, or a successful run as a high school football player his involvement unquestionably instilled a positive effect in his life which miraculously also brought his family together in support of his work.

Through constant progression and expansion along his journey it has allowed him use his skills to help others in his duty as a grappling instructor and also in his daily life.

Lee Heitzman finds success in life through Judo.

Martial Arts without question has the ability to shape a person's life in a positive manner. The physical and mental knowledge acquired in practice is so powerful it can even be transferred to tackle the daily challenges life presents to us outside the dojo. American judoka Lee Heitzman is a prime example of this theory’s logic as it has assisted him in his personal and professional life that was shared with us at BJJ Legends, jiu-jitsu magazine.

Born and raised in Denver, Colorado with the support of his parents Heitzman would be opened to a new world that would prove to be an essential element for his entry into adulthood in the future. Starting his practice in Judo at the age of five years old, Lee began his campaign at the Northglenn Judo Club under the watchful eye of Sensei Shuichi Otaka. Although small in stature from his time as an adolescent to his teen years Otaka would supply the young hopeful with the fundamental tools necessary that serviced his development into becoming a remarkable athlete.
