Datsusara Hemp Combat Gi (HCG-03) Review
“This is a decent gi. It feels like it can withstand the wear and tear of being a daily gi, without feeling like a suit of armor.”
This is my second go at this company’s gi. Just as before I really like this companie’s vision and mission statement. As this is their second gi that I’m reviewing, I can’t help but compare the two.
At first unpacking I quickly noticed the color of the gi. With out being loud or obnoxious, it manages to stand out with its own unique shade of blue. There is no mistaking it for any other gi on the market. On their first gi, they had a black logo on a black gi, but no one knew it was there because you couldn’t see it. On this edition, the logo stands out without being huge.
Another stand out feature of this gi is the comfort. It feels great to wear, it’s breathable and extremely soft. I am not exaggerating when I say that every time I wear this gi, some one comments on its softness and comfort. Pajamas, blankets, and linen sheets are words that come to mind when talking about the comfort and feel of this gi.
The fit of the gi is a little baggy, which isn’t too bad by itself, but there is three inches of material above the belt loops that make it even baggier. My legs are a little bit on the thick side for my height and weight so most a1’s fit well. I think with this particular gi a0 would be more appropriate.
One issue that this gi resolves from its predecessor is the shrinking issue. The first gi had some parts shrink more than others. After over a dozen washes, the shrinkage was uniform. However, there was some discoloration on the gi.
Overall, this is a decent gi. It feels like it can withstand the wear and tear of being a daily gi, without feeling like a suit of armor.
