Houston, TX- Girls in Gis, a women and girls Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu group, will host the next Girls in Gis event and Celebrate their two-year anniversary on August 21st 2011 at Elite MMA located at 10640 Westheimer Rd Houston, Texas.
Over the past two years, Girls in Gis has been making history in the Texas Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu typically considered a male dominated sport has been experiencing tremendous growth. However, the number of women who train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is still very small compared to the number of men. Girls in Gis pioneered the development of a women and girl’s program that has successfully united the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community on a regional and state level.
Girls in Gis brings women and girls together from Martial Arts schools throughout Texas for once a month event. All Girls in Gis training sessions are 100% free and open to women and girls of all ages and skill levels. Each Girls in Gis events are hosted at a different Martial Art school in various cities across Texas. Girls in Gis events are instructed by the resident women or women of the school in order to encourage women to teach, learn from and train with each other.
The purpose of Girls in Gis is to create a community of girls and women who train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and provide a fun, friend environment for training. The effective techniques and unique self defense edge has attributed to the success of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu worldwide. “By coming together from all schools we can train, learn and grow the sport for women everywhere.” Says Ashley Nguyen, founder of Girls in Gi.
